Water lilies in a rock garden?

Taking stock: How might we know if we are trying to grow water lilies in a rock garden? How do we know if it is time to compost all or part of what has been consuming our time? How do we know if it is time to plant something new, or find a new location to invest our efforts? These are not always easy questions to answer. The reason is that we are often working with purposeful intent towards what we imagine is possible. We believe that our efforts will pay off. We believe success is ours through our sheer will and determination. And we are used to doing things just the way we have always done them. We are comfortable in our daily grind. It is familiar. As a gardener, I know that observing what is working and not working in our garden beds is as important as dreaming over the new seed catalogue or browsing through our favorite nursery. This is true for our vision as well. Each year if we take stock of how our vision is progressing, we have a better chance of success.
